The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling the flow amount of a hydraulic pump for an excavator, restricting the maximum amount of a discharged flow of the hydraulic pump when performing a work with less load or a work which does not require a large flow amount of the pump. To achieve this, when a target time point is a time point where a large flow amount of the hydraulic pump is determined to be unnecessary, the target time point is the time point where the large flow amount of the hydraulic pump is unnecessary, an output pressure value of an electronic proportion control valve is increased to be a preset pressure value, thereby restricting the maximum amount of the discharged flow of the hydraulic pump. Accordingly, when performing the work with less load or the work which does not require a large flow amount of the pump, the output pressure value of the electronic proportion control valve is increased to be the preset pressure value to restrict the maximum amount of the discharged flow of the hydraulic pump, thereby reducing the waste of power and improving fuel efficiency. |
