Colorant compounds are new. Colorant compounds of formula (I) are new. [Image] Y : H or Br; n : 0-4; R 1alkylene or arylalkylene; X : H; a group of formula (Ia); alkyleneoxy, aryleneoxy, arylalkyleneoxy, or alkylaryleneoxy; or a group of formula (Ib); R 2alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, or alkylaryl; and R 4alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, or alkylaryl. An independent claim is also included for a compound comprising three or more moieties of the formula (AA). The moieties are linked by a central atom or group of atoms or bonded to a polymeric chain.
