[Class 69 (iii)] A travelling sewage &c. distributer is provided with a haulage lever or rod 34 pivoted thereto at 36 and attached by a clip to an endless haulage rope 22 passing over pulleys 20, 21 at each end of the filter-bed the rod being arranged so as to be clear of the pulley so that in one direction it pushes and the other pulls the carriage 22. The apparatus may be driven by a water wheel 11 receiving the whole or part of the sewage which is then delivered into a trough 13 whence it passes by a siphon 31 to the distributer arm 25 carried by wheels 27a, 28 on rails 29. A pump 32 is provided to start the siphon. Instead of being driven by a waterfall the apparatus may be driven by an electric motor. One or both of the pulleys may be adjustably mounted to tension the rope 22. A modification is described in which the driving means is mounted between two parallel beds, in which case one distributer is driven as described while the other is driven by a rope attached to the first distributer and curved around pulleys at each end of the bed. In a further form the distributer may run on a rail located along the centre of the filter-bed with arms on each side. The arms may be arranged to work in succession at different rates of flow of the sewage.</p> |
