A coating of thermoplastic resin or of porcelain enamel is applied to the surface of refractory articles which have been coated with refractory metal oxides by the process claimed in the parent Specification. Molten thermoplastic material may be applied by pouring, dipping or flame-spraying, e.g. in the case of polytetrafluoroethylene. Porcelain enamel may be applied by flame-spraying, or as a slurry, which is subsequently fired in an oven or flame-heated. For producing the refractory metal oxide coating, various compounds containing the metal in the anion, and having a volatile cation, e.g. ammonium or an organic amine, may be used in addition to those specified in the parent Specification. They include ammonium aluminates, zincates, tungstates, molybdates, chromates, perchromates, permanganates and plumbates. The use of acid aqueous solutions of titanium alkoxides is also mentioned. The coatings may be applied to aluminium, magnesium or molybdenum articles, and steel belts. |
