The present invention relates to a home appliance and an operating method thereof. The home appliance according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a driving unit which drives a load; a power supply unit which converts alternating current power applied from the outside and to which alternative power is applied at the time of power outage; a display unit; and a control unit which controls to be operated on the basis of the alternative power at the time of power outage and controls a message representing an operation based on the alternative power or an operation restriction request message to be displayed on the display unit. Accordingly, it is possible to easily report an operation mode at the time of power outage.
