A water driven electricity generating unit which fits to public (mains) water supply pipes. The unit can be installed in-line with or onto a mains pipe and comprises a drive wheel (turbine), which is arranged to rotate as mains water flows through the pipework; this rotation drives the central generation shaft which spins coils within the generators to create an electrical current. The unit may be linked directly to the electricity power grid and therefore would preferably be situated in close proximity to an electricity substation. The hydrokinetic unit may be installed into new pipework or fitted retrospectively, utilising existing water and electricity infrastructure. The constant water supply allows the unit to continually generate power and provides a discrete and environmentally friendly source of hydraulic power generation. |
