A process of treating an exhaust gaseous stream produced by a thermal regeneration process applied to an absorptive medium 20 located on a filter unit comprises feeding the exhaust gas stream 5 to the base 1 of a tower incinerator located close to the filter unit. The incinerator including, located above but relatively near the base of the tower, one or more burner heads (6, Fig 2) fed with biogas 8. The proportions of the exhaust gas and biogas feeds to the tower incinerator being such as to maintain, following ignition, stable combustion of the mixture of gas accompanied by the substantial destruction of contaminants in the exhaust gas. The flow of biogas to the burner heads is controlled by a variable flow means so as to operate the tower with no material excess of biogas over the amount required to maintain complete combustion of the gas mixture. Preferably the process includes periodically removing silica deposits from the burner heads within the tower by means of a stream of compressed air directed at the burner heads. Advantageously the process may be carried out in a biogas purification plant. |
