An agitating mechanism disposed in a toner container in which toner is stored, the agitating mechanism comprising: an agitating member configured to agitate the toner; and a rotation shaft member configured to support an agitating member that agitates the toner, the rotation shaft member provided, together with the agitating member, in the toner container so as to be rotatable, wherein the rotation shaft member includes: a pair of outer walls that extend in a rotation axis direction;a plurality of through holes that are defined by the pair of outer walls and pass through the rotation shaft member in a direction orthogonal to the rotation axis direction;a projection member having a plate-like shape and projecting outward from at least one of the pair of outer walls, the projecting member extending in the rotation axis direction; and a plurality of separation walls that are disposed parallel to each other between the pair of outer walls in such a way as to separate the plurality of through holes along the rotation axis direction, wherein the separation walls respectively have inclined surfaces that incline relative to the rotation axis direction, and when the rotation shaft member rotates, the inclined surfaces respectively apply forces to toner that has entered the plurality of through holes such that the toner is moved in the rotation axis direction.
