The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting an abnormality of a rotary atomizer. The apparatus for detecting an abnormality of a rotary atomizer comprises: a vibration detection unit to detect vibration information occurring in a rotary atomizer; a pipe pressure detection unit to detect a pressure of a compressed air pipe for injecting compressed air to drive a turbine of the rotary atomizer; and a control unit to determine whether a condition of the rotary atomizer is normal or abnormal based on the vibration information detected by the vibration detection unit and pressure information detected by the pipe pressure detection unit, or a change of the vibration information and pressure information, and output warning or guide information related to the condition.
