509,852. Artificial silk &c. ; treatment of natural and artificial bands, fibres etc.; dyeing; resinous condensation products. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 26, 1938, No. 2513. [Classes 2 (ii), 2 (iii), and 15 (ii)] Natural and artificial fibres or threads, artificial bands or the like are given a woollike character by incorporating in the fibres a resinous product prepared by causing an aromatic isocyanate or isothiocyanate to react with a mixture of a protein and a nitrogenous base or with a product of the reaction between a protein and a nitrogenous base. This resinous product may be incorporated with the fibres by producing it on the fibres or by impregnating the fibres with a solution or emulsion of the product. Artificial fibrescontaining casein require treatment only with the nitrogenous base and the aromatic isocyanate or insothiocyanate. Instead of being incorporated in already-made artificial fibres, those of the resinous products which are derived from a protein, an aromatic isocyanate or isothiocyanate and a nitrogenous base other than ethylene imine, a homologue thereof or a polymer of any of these imines may be dispersed, in finely pulverized form or in the form of a solution in an organic solvent, in the spinning solution from which the artificial threads are to be spun. The modified fibres, etc., obtained according to the process of the invention can be dyed, with wool dyestuffs, colours of very good fastness. In examples, (a) casein fibres are treated in turn with ethylene imine, and phenyl isocyanate, (b) various resinous products of the type referred to above are incorporated in viscose or cuprammonium spinning solutions. Specifications 501,653 and 505,976 are referred to. |
