The embodiment also involves displaying a target marker at the plane defined by the 3D track points to allow for visualization of the plane, wherein the target marker is displayed at an angle that corresponds with an angle of the plane. Additionally, the embodiment involves inserting a 3D object at a location in the plane defined by the 3D track points to be embedded into the video frame. The location of the 3D object is based at least in part on the target marker.

A computer-implemented method comprising: determining one or more characteristics of a plurality of video frames; determining a 3D reconstruction technique to generate a plurality of three-dimensional (3D) track points based on the one or more characteristics of the plurality of video frames; rendering, via a tracking application, the plurality of 3D track points on a two-dimensional (2D) display, wherein the 3D track points are generated using the 3D reconstruction technique and rendered at a plurality of locations of a single video frame of a plurality of video frames; receiving a selection of a grouping of the 3D track points from a user, wherein the grouping of the 3D track points is selected from the single video; determining, via a tracking application, a plane defined by the grouping of the 3D track points from the single video frame; displaying a target marker on the plane defined by the grouping of the 3D track points, wherein the target marker is displayed at an a target marker angle that corresponds with an angle of the plane; and inserting a 3D object at a location in the plane defined by the grouping of the 3D track, the location of the 3D object based at least in part on the target marker.
