The invention comprises complexes of the hexa-sodium salt of 3 : 3-ureido-bis-[8-(3-benzamido - p - toluoylamino) 1 : 3 : 5 - naphthalene trisulphonic acid] (suramin) and a basic trypanocidal drug which is a quaternary salt chosen from 4 - amino - 6 - (21 - amino - 61-methylpyrimidyl - 41 - amino) quinaldine - 1 : 11-dimethyl sulphate (I), 2 : 7-diamino-9-phenyl-10 - ethyl - phenanthridinium bromide (II), a salt of 2 - amino - 7 - (21 - amino - 11 : 61 - dimethyl - pyrimidyl - 41 - amino) - 9 - p - aminophenyl - 10 - methylphenanthridine (III), or a salt of 2 - amino - 7 - (21 - amine - 11 : 61 - dimethylpyrimidyl - 41 - amino) 9 - phenyl - 10-ethylphenanthridine (IV). The complexes are made by adding an aqueous solution of suramin to an aqueous solution of the trypanocidal drug the molecular proportions suramin : trypanocidal drug being 1 : 6 in the case of the mono-quaternary compound I(I) and 1 : 3 in the case of the di quaternary compounds (I), (III) and (IV). The products are used in the treatment of trypanosomiasis. |
