The present invention relates to a method and a device for operating a motor vehicle (1) by presetting a set speed. The method for operating a motor vehicle (1) by presetting a set speed comprises: a step (S1) of providing route sections of a front driving route to be driven by a highest probability and section parameters assigned to the route sections; a step (S2) of dividing the front driving route to be driven by the highest probability into partial sections; a step (S3) of performing optimization of set speeds in section boundaries of the partial sections associated with a preset target function; a step (S4) of interpolating the set speeds acquired on locations of the section boundaries to acquire a progressing pattern of the set speeds; and a step of operating the motor vehicle (1) based on presetting of the progressing pattern of the set speeds.
