A towing assembly that may convert from an articulated assembly extracting a vehicle in an inaccessible location to a rigid assembly for safely towing a vehicle on a road, the assembly having locking pivot joints.

1. A towing assembly, comprising:
a) a lunette; b) a first shaft attached at one end to said lunette; c) a second shaft attached at one end to said lunette; d) a third shaft attached at one end directly and pivotally to said first shaft at another end to form a first pivotable joint; e) a fourth shaft attached at one end directly and pivotally to said second shaft at another end to form a second pivotable joint; and f) a first means for fixing an orientation of said first and third shafts in a locked position relative to each other and a second means of fixing an orientation of said second and fourth shafts in a locked position relative to each other, whereby the first shaft and the third shaft are pivotable relative to each other about the first pivotable joint in an unlocked position and the first shaft and the third shaft are not pivotable relative to each other in the locked position; and whereby the second shaft and the fourth shaft are pivotable relative to each other about the second pivotable joint in an unlocked position and the second shaft and the fourth shaft are not pivotable relative to each other about the second pivotable joint in the locked position.
