The purpose of the present invention is to provide magnesium hydroxide endowed with both low gloss and the acid resistance required as an application property of paint. The present invention is coated magnesium hydroxide including magnesium hydroxide and colloidal silica coating the surface thereof, in which (A) the coating amount of colloidal silica is 0.1-20 wt% per 100 wt% of magnesium hydroxide in terms of SiO2, and (B) the major axis (width) is 0.5-20 μm, the thickness is 0.01-0.5 μm, and the aspect ratio is 10 or higher.
