Method and System for Joint Position Measurement

A system for measuring joint articulation includes one or more soft strain sensors. The joint can include a flexible material that experiences localized strain during joint articulation. The location of regions of the flexible material that become strained during joint articulation can be identified and the soft sensors can positioned at or adjacent to the strain locations on the flexible material. The system for measuring joint articulation can include a soft flexible skin that can be applied over the skin of a subject to measure the joint articulations of a hand and/or a wrist which can be used to control an object or a device, for example to provide a gesture based user interface.
