Marker of ocular pathologies. The invention relates to an in vitro method for diagnosing or determining the degree of an ocular surface pathology, to an in vitro method for monitoring the effect of a treatment administered to a patient diagnosed with an ocular surface pathology, and to an in vitro method for selecting a subject to undergo corneal refractive surgery based on the determination of the heparanase activity in a sample of said subject. The invention also relates to the use of the heparanase activity as a diagnostic marker of an ocular surface pathology, as a marker for determining the degree of said pathology, as a marker for monitoring the effect of a treatment administered to a patient diagnosed with an ocular surface pathology, and to the use of the heparanase activity in order to select a subject to undergo corneal refractive surgery.
