[Problem] To provide a 1: N biometric authentication system that provides a high level of security, without impairing convenience, by means of a biometric authentication method that involves combining wireless communication with an information terminal such as a smartphone and biometric information acquired by a biometric information acquisition unit. [Solution] A biometric authentication system comprising information terminals containing ID information, a biometric information acquisition terminal for acquiring biometric information, and a biometric authentication processing device, said biometric authentication processing device comprising: a first communication unit that communicates with an information terminal in order to acquire the ID information and location information of that information terminal; a second communication unit that communicates with the biometric information acquisition terminal in order to acquire the biometric information; a location information storage unit for storing information indicating that an information terminal containing ID information and the biometric information acquisition terminal are located within a predetermined range; a biometric reference information storage unit for storing, in association with the ID information, biometric reference information to be used for comparison for biometric authentication; and a control unit for controlling these units. The control unit performs control so as to: acquire the ID information and the location information indicating the location of an information terminal from the information terminal using the first communication unit; if the location information thereof is indicated to be within a predetermined range from the location of the biometric information acquisition terminal, cause the location information storage unit to store information indicating that the information terminal and the biometric information acquisition terminal are located within the predetermined range: and perform comparison processing of the biometric information using the biometric reference information corresponding to the ID information of the information terminal stored in the location information storage unit when the biometric information is received from the second communication unit.
