With regard to a vehicle structural member wherein a hat cross-sectional component and a U cross-sectional component are superimposed and integrally joined, the present invention can suitably join a first upright wall part of the hat cross-sectional member and a second upright wall part of the U cross-sectional member. A hat cross-sectional member (12) is inserted from a first protruding wall part (20) side into a U cross-sectional member (14), and the two members are superimposed. A first upright wall part (22) section that is in the vicinity of a flange-part-side corner part is deflected/deformed so as to come into contact with an inside surface of a tip section of a second upright wall part (32) and is integrally joined therewith. The deformation direction of the deflection/deformation is the outside direction of the hat cross-sectional shape, i.e. the direction in which the hat cross-sectional shape approaches the flange part (24) and slackens, and therefore deformation resistance is relatively small and the two members can be securely brought into contact and suitably joined at a high joining strength, even if there is space therebetween.
