The present invention relates to a method of applying a presentation timestamp to an element of a sequence of sub-titles N, the said method comprising at least: - A step of initializing a minimum presentation timestamp T MINof an element of a sequence of sub-titles N; - A step of comparing the presentation timestamp T(N) of the said new element of a sub-title sequence N and the minimum presentation timestamp for sub-titles T MIN; - A step of applying the minimum presentation timestamp for sub-titles T MINto the said element of a sequence of sub-titles N if the presentation timestamp T(N) of the said new sub-titles element is prior to the minimum presentation timestamp for sub-titles T MIN, the said method being characterized in that upon the completion of these steps it comprises a step of calculating the minimum presentation timestamp for sub-titles T MINfor an element of a sequence of sub-titles N+1, as a timestamp posterior to the presentation timestamp T(N) of the new sub-titles element. The present invention also pertains to a video encoding device and a decoding device.
