PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide pharmaceutical compositions containing dihydroergotamine (DHE) and methods of administering DHE to patients for treatment of migraine without side effects or adverse effects.SOLUTION: Methods for rapid treatment of migraine with DHE are disclosed comprising: dampening a peak plasma concentration (C) and slightly delaying the peak so as to suppress activating dopaminergic and adrenergic receptors, while achieving sufficient active binding to serotonin receptors to provide relief from migraine symptoms within a time frame that permits rapid resolution of migraine symptoms. Inhaler devices suitable for the methods are also disclosed. Kits for practicing the methods of the invention are also disclosed.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
