PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating method and device capable of promptly heating catalysts.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of heating catalysts (28, 30) in an exhaust gas region (26) of an internal combustion engine in which: the internal combustion engine is operated by direct fuel injection into a combustion chamber (12); the internal combustion engine (10) is operated by second-best ignition angle efficiency and division of an amount of fuel injected before starting combustion into partial injections (ti_1, ti_2); the torque loss caused by the second-best ignition angle efficiency or the division of the amount of injected fuel is compensated by increased charging efficiency of the combustion chamber (12); and the amount of fuel and the charging efficiency are adjusted so that an excess air ratio lambda (L) of the air charged in the combustion chamber becomes more than 1. In the method, a scale relating to a temperature (T) of the catalysts is measured, so that an amount of exhaust gas component to be decreased is increased by at least one intervention to a control device of the internal combustion engine (10), when the scale is greater than a predetermined temperature threshold value (T_S).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
