PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing intermediate compounds as ingredients of (2,4-dimethylbiphenyl-3-yl)acetic acids and esters thereof, and a method for producing biphenyl compounds from the intermediate compounds.SOLUTION: A process for preparing a compound represented by formula (II) being an intermediate compound comprises brominating a compound represented by formula (III) to synthesize the compound represented by formula (II). Thereafter, the compound represented by formula (II) is reacted in the presence of a base and a palladium catalyst, if appropriate in a solvent, with an arylboronic acid and converted into a biphenyl compound.
