ICE COMPARTMENT ASSEMBLY FOR REFRIGERATOR

An insulated icemaking compartment is provided in the fresh food compartment of a bottom mount refrigerator. The icemaking compartment may be integrally formed with the liner of the fresh food compartment, or alternatively, may be modular for installation anywhere in the fresh food compartment. A removable bin assembly with a front cover normally seals the icemaking compartment to maintain the temperature in the compartment. A cold air duct formed in the rear wall of the refrigerator supplies cold air from the freezer compartment to the icemaking compartment. A return air duct directs a portion of the air from the icemaking compartment back to the freezer compartment. An air vent in the icemaking compartment directs another portion of air into the fresh food compartment. A control system provides for controlling refrigerator functions in a manner that promotes energy efficiency.

1. A refrigerated appliance comprising:
an insulated cabinet comprising a freezer compartment spaced in a bottom portion of the cabinet and a fresh food compartment spaced above the freezer compartment of the cabinet wherein the fresh food compartment is defined by a liner having top, bottom, left side, right side, front, and back walls, and a front opening in the front wall; an ice making compartment in an upper corner of the upper portion of the cabinet outside of the liner and including a front opening; a sleeve having a closed back end, an open front end corresponding with the front opening of the ice making compartment, perimeter dimension that allow the sleeve to fit within the ice making compartment; a removeable ice making assembly disposed within an interior volume of the sleeve and comprising an ice maker and an ice making compartment insulating front opening cover; insulating material between at least a portion of the liner proximate the ice making compartment and the sleeve; a cold air duct that has a lower air inlet positioned within the freezer compartment and an upper outlet end engaged with a fan and operably engaged with the ice making assembly to provide cold air to the ice making assembly; a fresh food compartment door providing access to both the fresh food compartment and the ice compartment.
