PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions for inhibiting eukaryote translation initiation factor eIF4E.SOLUTION: Provided are methods for inhibiting e4 activity using a composition comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of ribavirin and analogs thereof, 7-methylguanosine and analogs thereof, pyrazomycin, ribamidine and showdomycin.
