摘要 Rubbery copolymers comprising a major proportion of iso-olefine having 4 to 8 carbon atoms per molecule, at least a proportion of the copolymer containing at least 0.5 weight per cent of combined halogen, are vulcanized by heating with a phenol dialcohol. The rubbers may be derived from isobutylene and a multiolefine, conjugated or non-conjugated di-olefines or triolefines, higher polyolefines and polyolefines containing aromatic nuclei are listed. The maximum halogen context is X weight per cent wherein <FORM:0813964/IV (a)/1> where L=mol. per cent of the multiolefine, M1 and M2 are the molecular weights of the isoolefine and multi-olefine respectively, and M3 is the atomic weight of the halogen. The phenol dialcohol may be resinous or not, and 2,6-dimethylol - 4 - hydrocarbon phenols are specified, wherein the hydrocarbon is methyl, t-butyl, octyl, dodecyl, phenyl, benzyl, a ,a -dimethyl benzyl and cyclohexyl, and preferred amounts are from 1 to 40 parts by weight per 100 parts of rubber. A basic metal compound such as zinc, magnesium, calcium and lead oxides, or basic lead stearate, may be added in a proportion up to 50 weight per cent and the uncured composition may be blended with from 1 to 10 weight per cent of stabilizers such as calcium silicate and a deactivator, e.g. ethylene glycol, before or after compounding with a filler or curing agent. The preferred vulcanizing temperature is from 120 DEG to 205 DEG C. The vulcanized composition may be used in tyres, curing bags or bladders, conveyer belts and steam hoses.
