PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic analyzer and a method for controlling the automatic analyzer that can reduce the dead volume of liquid, such as a test reagent, remaining in a container.SOLUTION: A method includes: obtaining the cross sectional area S of a dispensation object test reagent container 24 (step S11); and setting an additional declination level A or additional declination level B corresponding to the cross sectional area S as an additional declination level from the liquid surface of a liquid reagent of a test reagent probe 12B (steps S13 and S14). It includes: lowering the test reagent probe 12b toward the liquid surface of the test reagent (step S15); further lowering the test reagent probe 12B from the liquid surface of the test reagent by the additional declination level A or additional declination level B (step S17) if a liquid surface detection unit 12C detects the liquid surface of the test reagent (YES at step S16); and sucking a prescribed amount of the test reagent by the test reagent probe 12B (step S18).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
