PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for high data rate transmission in a wireless communication system.SOLUTION: Information signals are processed by at least two modems 38, 40, 42, and the modulated information signals are transmitted using two carrier frequencies and aggregated. Multiple data transmissions are provided concurrently over a broad bandwidth consistent with single transmission air-interface standards. A mobile unit 34 includes a multi-link (ML) protocol processor 36 that aggregates the information signals from the modems into a point-to-point protocol (PPP) format to interface with conventional data-based systems, such as the Internet. The ML processor further receives an aggregated bundle and separates the bundle into its constituent parts to modulate by the modems.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
