A connection element is also provided with a receiving area (10) for attaching the central buffer coupling to a coupling shaft (7) provided on the rail vehicle. According to the invention, the coupling element (2) tapers into the region for securing to the coupling shaft and can be fixed by a shell-type sleeve (9) which surrounds both the coupling element (2) as well as the coupling shaft (7).
