Disclosed in the present invention are a device and a method for establishing a data connection thereof. The device includes: an application processor and a modem, if the device is configured to establish a data connection only using a first wireless access technique, the application processor judges whether the wireless access technique currently used by the device is the first wireless access technique; if the wireless access technique currently used by the device is not the first wireless access technique, the application processor sends a request for releasing the data connection to the modem, and the modem releases the data connection established by the device according to the request for releasing the data connection; if the wireless access technique currently used by the device is changed to be the first wireless access technique, the application processor sends a request for establishing a data connection to the modem; and the modem establishes the data connection using the first wireless access technique according to the received request for establishing the data connection.
