The present invention relates to a method of controlling modes of presentation of sub-titles. It relates notably to a method of creating a sub-titles stream or file integrating the formation of sub-titles blocks according to a set of modes of presentation of sub-titles. It also relates to a method of presenting a sub-titles stream or file on the terminal of a user integrating the selection of a mode of presentation of sub-titles, the reading of a sub-titles block associated with the said mode of presentation in the stream or file, and the presentation of the said sub-titles block on the user's terminal.
