<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display system and an image display device capable of reducing weight of the image display device. <P>SOLUTION: An image display system 1 includes: a head-mounted image display device 3 for displaying an image; a light supply device 2 which has a light source and is configured separately from the image display device 3; and light transmission means 4 for transmitting light from the light supply device 2 to the image display device 3. One of the light supply device 2 and the image display device 3 has a light modulation device 222 for modulating the light emitted from the light source.
