A system for remotely monitoring and/or controlling a plurality of power distribution units and/or sensor units (110, 120, ..., 1 n0) in a data centre comprises:
- in each one of the power distribution units and/or sensor units (110, 120, ... 1n0) a switch (114, 124, ..., 1 n4) having a first external Ethernet port (111, 121, ..., 1n1), a second internal Ethernet port (112, 122, ..., 1n2), and a third external Ethernet port (113, 123, ..., 1 n3); and
- a daisy chain network comprising the power distribution units and/or sensor units as nodes (110, 120, ..., 1n0). The switch (114, 124, ..., 1n4) inspects, in an incoming data packet a destination node, identification field contained in a layer higher than or equal to the Ethernet/IP layer in order to decide to switch the incoming data packet to the internal Ethernet port, or to the next node in the daisy chain via an external Ethernet port. |
