摘要
816,112. Selective punching machines. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 22, 1955 [Dec. 31, 1954], No. 36778/55. Class 31 (2). [Also in Groups XVI, XXIV and XXXVII] A machine for punching data on record cards comprises means for moving each card stepwise past a row of selectively actuable punches so that data is punched in different index point positions in each column of the card and thereafter restoring the card to its initial position to enable further data to be punched in the card. The machine enables data from several record cards to be consolidated on a single record card. As shown in Fig. 6, each record card is fed to an initial position adjacent a row of punches 166 co-operating with a die 162 by means of a pair of feed rollers 158, 160 and the feed roller 160, which is spring-urged towards the feed roller 158, is then moved away from the roller 158 by means of a pair of cams 220. Each card is moved stepwise past the punches by means of a pair of arms 163 mounted on a shaft 335, the arms 163 being stepped along during a punching cycle and restored near the end thereof by means of a rotatable stepped cam 366, Fig. 2b. Each arm 163 has pivotally mounted thereon a spring-biased toggle lever 338 which is movable, by means of cams 346, to a closed position in which the card is gripped between a projection 338a on the toggle lever and lips 163a extending forwardly from the upper ends of the arms 163. The card is guided during its arcuate movement by the arms 163 by means of a pair of co-operating arcuate members 376, 378, the member 376 being pivotable towards and away from the member 378 which is fixed. The card is guided while being returned to the punching station by means of a pair of spring-influenced fingers 226, Fig. 6, which engage the underside of the card. At the end of the punching cycle, the toggle levers 338 are moved to the open position, to release the card, by means of a pair of arms 388 which are rotated in a counterclockwise direction. At the same time as the card is released, a pair of laterally-spaced rollers 392 mounted on the free ends of pivotally-mounted arms 394 are moved upwardly, by means of cams 398, against the underside of the card to raise it and the member 376 in order to feed the card to ejection rollers 384, 386 and thence to a stacker 408. The punching-machine which is otherwise similar to that described in Specification 442,534, which is referred to, may be coupled either to a card reading machine, similar to that described in the prior Specification or to an accounting- machine. When the punching machine is coupled to the card reading machine, the operations may consist of straight consolidation, consolidation by groups, and consolidation on related cards. When the punching machine is coupled to an accounting machine, the operations may consist of consolidation of predetermined numbers of minor group totals, consolidation of the minor group totals of respective major groups, and consolidation of the minor group totals on respective major groups on related cards. Electrical circuits for the above operations are described with reference to Figs. 10 to 21 (not shown).
