Class 73 [Also in Group XVII] A machine for producing window envelope prints the shaped blanks, cuts out windows and pastes on the transparent covers, arranges the blanks in staggered or overlapped formation and passes them to gumming, drying and folding means. Shaped blanks 1 are fed from a stack by suction means 15a and rollers 16, 18 to three sets of printing mechanisms at stations II, III, IV. The printed blanks are passed between cutting rolls 34, 37, 39 which cut out the windows in two stages, the waste material being sucked down a shoot 38. The cut blanks are fed by rollers 46, 46a, 47, 48 to means 41-43 and 49 for applying paste to the window margins. The roll 49 is kept paste free in the event of a break in the feed of blanks by a water trough 52 and a doctor blade. The window covering material is fed from a roll 66 to cutters 71, 73 from which the blanks so formed are passed by rollers 63, 79 to a drum 58 carrying the envelope blanks to which they adhere. The completed blanks travel round rolls 61, 62, the roll 62 having suction means 72 to grip three blanks and feed them to belts 84, 85, the speed of which causes staggering or overlapping of the blanks. The staggered blank formation passes flap gumming devices 95, 96 and is carried by belts 87, 88 over drying means 104 to known folding mechanism (not shown). |
