A telecommunication network 30 for telecommunications between end point devices 36,37,38, such as telephones or video phones, the network 30 comprising a plurality of device control systems 40 (e.g. PBX) implemented by a computer system. Each device control system 40 is shared by end point devices 36,37,38 allocated to it and is configured to control communication connections involving telecommunications originating from end point devices 36,37,38 allocated to it and other end point devices. At least some functionality of the plurality of telecommunication device control systems 40 is shared by at least some parts of the computer system. Thus, the telecommunication network may be, in effect, shared between two (or more) organisations which allow controlled sharing of information between some or all of these organisations. The ease of information sharing is achieved as the information to be shared regarding telephones allocated to a particular PBX (address books, dialplans, presence-detection and divert-to-mobile info) is stored in a storage device (such as a hard disk drive) of the PBX 40 allocated as the PBX of each organisation and this PBX functionality is shared by at least some parts of the same computer system. Thus, by providing access to this data by simply providing appropriate permissions, the information may be shared. |
