<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device able to efficiently reduce speckle noise. <P>SOLUTION: The F value of a rear projection optical system 27 is made smaller than the F value of a front projection optical system 24. Angle transformation means 25 disposed in the position of an intermediate image formed by the front projection optical system 24 has a conjugation relation with a display screen 26. In addition, the means 25 is set so as to widen the angle of light emitted from the front projection optical system 24.
