<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen storage alloy having improved hydrogen absorbing/desorbing properties. <P>SOLUTION: The hydrogen storage alloy is characterized in that it includes an alloy ingot manufactured by a casting method or a sintering method and having a composition represented by the following general formula (2) or a pulverized material of the alloy ingot. Mg<SB>1-a</SB>R1<SB>a</SB>(Ni<SB>1-x</SB>M2<SB>x</SB>)<SB>z</SB>...
