PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve contrast upon observing a circular polarization.SOLUTION: An illumination optical system 22 having a right circular polarization element 35 is configured to irradiate a sample 12 with light from a light source 31, and thereby an image formation optical system 23 having a left circular polarization element 42 is configured to converge light emitted from the sample 12 to an image formation position FP11. Further, in the image formation optical system 23, a compensator 41 for adjusting contrast of the sample 12 is provided, and the compensator 41 is rotated by a rotation drive mechanism 46. The rotation drive mechanism 46 is configured to perform azimuth alignment of the sample 12 and the compensator 41 without rotating the sample 12 upon observation of the circular polarization, and the contrast can be improved. The present invention can be applied to a transmission type polarization microscope.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
