<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor with high quality which improves the productivity and to provide a method for manufacturing the capacitor. <P>SOLUTION: An electric double layer capacitor is sheathed with an exterior film 8 having a thermally fusible film layer. The exterior film 8 has a notch in at least one of its corners. The notch eliminates folding work for preventing the increase of the external dimension of the exterior film 8 and prevents excessive overlapping at folded parts to make the thickness of the exterior film 8 uniform.
