PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a fluorescent material which is high in brightness and color-rendering property, and has high-temperature characteristics and long-term reliability; and a white light-emitting device arranged by use of such a fluorescent material.SOLUTION: A light-emitting device comprises: a light-emitting element; and a fluorescent material operable to convert the wavelength of light of the light-emitting element. The fluorescent material has an oxynitride fluorescent material (A) and a nitride fluorescent material (B). When the fluorescent material (A) is excited with light of 455 nm, the peak wavelength of fluorescence of the fluorescent material (A) is 525 to less than 528 nm, the chromaticity X(CX) is 0.25-0.27, and the fluorescence intensity (abbreviated to FI, in units of %) is 60-200%; FI and CX satisfy the relation given by the expression (1) below. When the fluorescent material (B) is excited with light of 455 nm, the peak wavelength of fluorescence of the fluorescent material (B) is 631-670 nm, and the chromaticity X is 0.642-0.692.
