A laminate absorbent core comprising: a first, lower laminate layer and a second, upper laminate layer, the first, lower laminate layer comprising a first carrier substrate and the second, upper laminate layer comprising a second carrier substrate, wherein superabsorbent polymer material forms multiple stripes on each of the first and second carrier substrates, the stripes being spaced apart from each other to form gaps between neighboring stripes, the second laminate layer being positioned on the first laminate layer with the first and second carrier substrates facing outwardly, such that the superabsorbent polymer material stripes of the second laminate layer are overlaying the gaps formed in the first laminate layer and the superabsorbent polymer material stripes of the first laminate layer are overlaying the gaps formed in the second laminate layer, wherein each gap in the first laminate layer is wider than the superabsorbent polymer material stripe of the second laminate layer lying above the gap, and each gap in second laminate layer is wider than the superabsorbent polymer material stripe of the first laminate layer lying below the gap, such that the superabsorbent polymer material stripes of the first and second laminate layers do not overlap and an interstice is formed, wherein the interstice extends between the first and second carrier substrates and is substantially free of superabsorbent polymer material, wherein the superabsorbent polymer material is at least partially immobilized by a first adhesive, the first adhesive forming a fibrous layer between the first and second laminate layer.
