PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating glycerin-containing liquid waste such as crude glycerin to be produced as a by-product in a biodiesel production process, each of the method and apparatus of which belongs to a valuable material production type.SOLUTION: The method for treating the glycerin-containing liquid waste comprises the steps of: performing primary treatment on the glycerin-containing liquid waste by using a microorganism, which belongs to genus aurantiochytrium and can be used for producing aliphatic acid having 14 or more carbon atoms; and performing secondary treatment on the primarily-treated water to remove the organic matter remaining in the primarily-treated water. An organic component such as saccharide contained in the glycerin-containing liquid waste is utilized as a culture raw material of the microorganism so that the glycerin-containing liquid waste can be treated effectively and unsaturated aliphatic acid useful as health food, livestock feed, fishery bait or the like can be produced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
