PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide systems and methods that ensure that cracks in a radius filler do not initiate degradation of laminated joints.SOLUTION: A composite structure (200) is provided. The composite structure (200) includes a plurality of components (204) coupled together forming a joint (206), where the plurality of components (204) are oriented such that a gap (216) is defined at least partially between the plurality of components.
