PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device, image forming apparatus, and image reading method with which a reduction in the amount of light received by an image sensor during image reading can be prevented, and a fixed pattern noise can be removed to read images.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: an image sensor; a condensation member that is enabled to collect light from a subject of photography with respect to the image sensor and enabled to change the direction of light so as not to collect light with respect to the image sensor; and a subtraction part that subtracts a result of imaging by the image sensor when the direction of light has been changed so that the condensation member does not collect light with respect to the image sensor from a result of imaging by the image sensor when the condensation member has collected light with respect to the image sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
