PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel assist system that controls an own vehicle into a position at which the own vehicle can safely and highly efficiently pass a preceding vehicle.SOLUTION: When an own vehicle C departs a traveling lane is a side direction and passes a preceding vehicle, a travel route along which the own vehicle C can assume a posture in which the own vehicle can detect a scene in front of the preceding vehicle while an object detector 11 is located within a range from the end of the preceding vehicle in a side direction to the border of the traveling lane is created, the distance between the own vehicle C and preceding vehicle enabling the own vehicle C to travel along the created travel route is designated, and the own vehicle C is controlled for fear the distance between the own vehicle C and preceding vehicle may be equal to or smaller than the designated distance.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
