An IV catheter introducer assembly including a catheter hub defining a chamber; a tubular member extending distally from the catheter hub having a length and defining a lumen, the lumen being in fluid communication with the chamber and configured to removably receive an introducer needle. The device also including a retention member disposed within the chamber having a body having a central lumen having a longitudinal length extending along a lengthwise direction to the length of the tubular member and sized to seal against an introducer needle. The retention member including a venting channel having at least a portion formed as a conic helix traversing a surface of the retention member along a radial path to the lengthwise direction. |
