Disclosed are an electronic device and an operation method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the electronic device operation method comprises: a step of detecting user input; a step of generating a proximity sensing field within a predetermined distance based on a display; and a step of determining whether a touch sensing object of the user is out of the proximity sensing field and deciding whether to maintain a control mode designed to perform a specific control related to the input depending on the determination result.
