PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform matching search of script image data obtained by reading a script and document data stored in storage means accurately without using additional information in a document management system.SOLUTION: A document management system comprises a compound machine M1 (slave machine) and a compound machine M2 (master machine). The slave machine M1 reads an image of a script with a scanner and performs OCR processing on image data of the read script to extract characters. The master machine M2 extracts, from the characters extracted by the slave machine M1, only characters with a high certainty of identification in the OCR processing. The master machine M2 searches document data stored in a first storage part 31 of the master machine with the extracted characters as keywords, and determines document data with high similarity as an original document of the script (same document). The master machine M2 stores the document data (image data) of the script read by the slave machine M1 in the same storage area as that for the original document in the storage part of the master machine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
