The present invention relates to: a sealing material composition for solar cells, which is capable of reducing the time required for a lamination step and is capable of improving light resistance and wet heat resistance; a sealing material layer for solar cells, which uses this sealing material composition for solar cells; and a solar cell module. A sealing material composition for solar cells, which is characterized by containing an ethylene copolymer and an organic peroxide having a peroxy ester structure represented by general formula (1) or (2). (In the formulae, each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently represents an optionally substituted alkyl group having 1-18 carbon atoms or an optionally substituted aryl group having 5-18 carbon atoms.)
